It may sound like a lunatic idea, but it's worth a shot in my opinion

With how internet messaging has been going lately, especially with Discord puke , i thought convincing more and more people to ditch it for IM's might be for the better, and since Crosstalk afaik is the best revival service of them RN, it's an obvious choice.

The most prominent problem is public adoption; why switch to a service if your friends won't come, or won't be there? You solve this problem, and you can have an easy highway for more users.

Another one is actually convincing...they used Discord for so long, why leave it? This ties back to the previous problem, as how do they then convince their friends to uninstall discord?

Discord has overstayed it's welcome imo

I figure I'll give my take on this, as someone who's in their fair share of communities (including being a CrossTalk developer/moderator).

The truth is (and this is frankly a problem with a lot of these proposals to "leave Discord for XYZ") - often the proposals only ever consider one degree of separation. You have friends, your friends have friends, their friends have friends, etc etc. To get your friends to ditch Discord for a new platform, they're gonna want to make sure their own friends can come with them. Then their friends are gonna want to do the same thing, and so on so forth. And if there's a disagreement anywhere in that infinitely sized tree, it's very easy for these plans to fall apart.

There's also the problem of people being *forced* to use Discord. I do cybersecurity competitions. A lot of communication for those is over Discord. I help organize a competition that does all internal and external comms over Discord. The team I typically did these competitions with runs entirely over Discord as well. Consider that many school clubs, organizations, communities, etc. are anchored into Discord and that there's a low chance of them budging unless something incredibly catastrophic happens.

I think the best that most people can really do is to not buy into the platform (i.e. cancel Nitro, etc.) I think, as much as I despise Discord and their practices, that for many people leaving the platform is going to be practically impossible.

Yeah, I'm not exactly going to have the best luck getting my friends to migrate with me. Maybe they will in the future, but...idk

I think Crosstalk might need a bit more advertisment. People cannot try it if they don't even know about it's existence and features. Newcomers need to know why Crosstalk is good. Confused

Back then it was easier because there were a bunch of messengers to choose from. Now we have to describe what options users have.
