Hello, folks.

I've got a iPod Touch 2nd gen, running iOS 4.2.1

the default safari browser no longer can look up most sites. frogfind.de/ identified my browser as Apple Safari 5 (Mac)

Is there a browser that will work on this mp3 player?

Because of how iOS is, any browser will use Safari's rendering engine under the hood. Even so, however, no web browser will help you because of how old your iOS version is, not to mention how old your hardware is.

Damn Sad

Well there goes my plan to use this tiny thing for anything but music.

at least with my experience with iPhone OS 3 on a 1st gen Touch, most websites won't even render properly on the device. it's usually way too small, since the browser won't resize anything for you, and there aren't really any websites nowadays optimized for old phones

I mean, it's an iPod, music is what it really excels at anyway Wink

That's been my experience even on my iPhone 5S and SE 1, which are both a fair bit newer than the iPod Touch 1st and 2nd generations.

Best sticking to music with this one, I reckon. At a push maybe some video content downloaded from iTunes. I got one c. 2010 from my Mum and it suffered unbelievable abuse until 2021 when the screen glass cracked. I've still got it though - I may fix it someday.

Moved to a 5th gen Classic about 2019 time as I was (and still am) not exactly strong on the idea of the iPod being much more than a very good music player.

So in a very roundabout way, using it for music is likely the best choice. Smile

My primary iPod is my iPod 6.5g, which stores my entire iTunes library. I believe the Touch models can do HD video out of the box, but I don't know how much luck you'll have playing modern HD content on them, yeah.

Given how big my iPod is (120GB), and the fact it can be upgraded if I ever wish to do so, I do also store pictures on there as well (mostly in case I want to show off my photography and happen to have the iPod on-hand), and I do keep some television shows and the like on there, but there are certainly better ways to do both things, even if you don't want to put them on your phone (I, for instance, also have said television shows on my PSP's memory card, which is probably a better viewing experience anyway given it has a larger screen).

I think you're right about HD video on the Touch. It's been so long since I've used mine I can't remember, but I had the Muppets vs Queen doing Bohemian Rhapsody on it. Very Happy

I never owned a Touch but I remember the message saying my iPod couldn't support HD video and looking up what models could support it.

Also The Muppets' "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a favorite song of nick99nack's! Wink

as mentioned before i own a 1st gen Touch, which... has gone missing somewhere. seriously don't know where it is. but i basically only used it for music videos, since the internal storage is only 8GB and my music library is significantly larger than that. and since i have those Apple 30-pin Composite cables, i can play them on my TV or whatever
