Hello all!
As some of you may know, I'm a vocal member of the IRC fan club, and I thought it'd be interesting to hear what everyone's first experiences with IRC were.
Mine personally came about when I was in high school and getting into calculator modding communities (detailed here) and I saw that a primary means of discussion was over IRC. I used AdiIRC and channels were on EFNet, which sadly seems to have died out for the most part, and my nick at the time was RogerWilc (which was RogerWilco, but the character limit on IRC nicknames sliced off the last character lol). For those who are unaware, unfamiliar, or don't remember, EFNet had no NickServ, which meant that I had to learn how to do NickServ stuff didn't come about until I messed around with FreeNode (rest in peace) a bit a little later. My home was always EFNet though. My high school blocked IRC ports, so I would sometimes use Chrome Remote Desktop to remote into my computer at home and talk that way. I'm glad IRC hasn't died out completely, but I do miss those older days sometimes lol _________________ Your System ate a SPARC! Gah! |

I missed out on the whole IRC thing back in the day, and still kept passing me by even now. I've always wanted to try it though! _________________ That sounds irresponsibly silly and is therefore, clearly, something I am likely to almost always do. |

| Yeup, missed out on it. By the time I had a computer with internet access, the world had largely moved on. I was on Skype for a long time when that became popular. |

I used IRC a lot in the 2000's for counter strike 1.6 related things. Back then you'd have to use IRC to find scrims or ringers for your match if you were down a player. If you competed in online leagues then you also had to have an IRC channel for your team. Spent countless hours on there doing that and very glad I did. _________________ Posted from Windows XP SP3 |
