It may sound like a lunatic idea, but it's worth a shot in my opinion
With how internet messaging has been going lately, especially with Discord , i thought convincing more and more people to ditch it for IM's might be for the better, and since Crosstalk afaik is the best revival service of them RN, it's an obvious choice.
The most prominent problem is public adoption; why switch to a service if your friends won't come, or won't be there? You solve this problem, and you can have an easy highway for more users.
Another one is actually convincing...they used Discord for so long, why leave it? This ties back to the previous problem, as how do they then convince their friends to uninstall discord?
Discord has overstayed it's welcome imo _________________ Why can't the internet be colorfull again?

I figure I'll give my take on this, as someone who's in their fair share of communities (including being a CrossTalk developer/moderator).
The truth is (and this is frankly a problem with a lot of these proposals to "leave Discord for XYZ") - often the proposals only ever consider one degree of separation. You have friends, your friends have friends, their friends have friends, etc etc. To get your friends to ditch Discord for a new platform, they're gonna want to make sure their own friends can come with them. Then their friends are gonna want to do the same thing, and so on so forth. And if there's a disagreement anywhere in that infinitely sized tree, it's very easy for these plans to fall apart.
There's also the problem of people being *forced* to use Discord. I do cybersecurity competitions. A lot of communication for those is over Discord. I help organize a competition that does all internal and external comms over Discord. The team I typically did these competitions with runs entirely over Discord as well. Consider that many school clubs, organizations, communities, etc. are anchored into Discord and that there's a low chance of them budging unless something incredibly catastrophic happens.
I think the best that most people can really do is to not buy into the platform (i.e. cancel Nitro, etc.) I think, as much as I despise Discord and their practices, that for many people leaving the platform is going to be practically impossible. _________________ "The most manly thing you can do is be a decent person" - me, 2026

| Yeah, I'm not exactly going to have the best luck getting my friends to migrate with me. Maybe they will in the future, but...idk |

I think Crosstalk might need a bit more advertisment. People cannot try it if they don't even know about it's existence and features. Newcomers need to know why Crosstalk is good.
Back then it was easier because there were a bunch of messengers to choose from. Now we have to describe what options users have. _________________

| Discord has the 'skype issue', where it has become too big to fail, only a catastrophic implosion will cause the majority of users to migrate, in my opinion at least. Sadly this means a bloated and overly complex app is dominant right now. |

Discord has its place. I have used it since 2017 (about a year after it began). A lot of these revival communities are lacking uptime, support, etc. They need a lot of work to migrate users from any platform, especially Discord.
We all joke about Discord and its many issues, but the stability is better than most messenger revivals. The revival communities are also toxic and contain a lot of in-fighting. The brainrot of a lot of those users keep people from joining. The militant or smartass responses from staff or owners of the revivals when asking for assistance or support doesn't help their cause at all.
Some of you may think it's time to jump ship from Discord, but a word of warning: Look before you leap. _________________ Please hesitate to reach out.

ironically I feel like those users are most prevalent on the respective discord communities for those revivals - some revivals themselves will attract an immature userbase - a revival for a children's game such as club penguin or roblox seems to be especially vulnerable to this.
on the other hand, I tend to take accounts of bad staff with a pinch of salt - while there are certainly communities run by immature individuals, I have seen too many times somebody blatantly breaking the rules or being unpleasant, being banned, and then slandering the moderators or owners as immature or unfair, when in reality they themselves were at fault. |

100%. Especially in this day and age, we can't really take anything at face value. _________________ That sounds irresponsibly silly and is therefore, clearly, something I am likely to almost always do. |

| Really my biggest two issues with Discord as a whole are the age verification and the ads they have started to run. |

Just yesterday I got an "offer" from Discord on launch about some percentage off YouTube Premium. |

Same here, I'm still on Discord, but my use-case is less now. During COVID (etc.) I was a more regular user - but I was stuck in the house, to be fair. _________________ That sounds irresponsibly silly and is therefore, clearly, something I am likely to almost always do. |

| Yeah. "Offers" are always and have always been a nicer way to spell "Advertisements" or "Sponsorships." |
