Hello again, haven't talked in here for a while now, so in order to satiate my current boredom I might as well talk about what I've been up to for the better part of almost two months. Question

SystemK is my own operating system that I decided to start working on during the tail end of my summer break from university after being chronically bored of doing (practically) nothing. bouncing
It's still one big WIP, however its reached a point where I feel like showing it off.

In terms of notable stuff I've achieved at the moment: drums
- boots and works great on real hardware
- support for pretty much any resolution that is at least 640x480 (only at build-time for now, will change soon)
- FAT32 filesystem support
- storage device support (IDE, AHCI SATA, USB)
- rudimentary process controlling
- rudimentary ACPI support

In terms of what's planned: think
- sound (PC speaker and AC97 first, then I'll consider SB16 and HDA)
- networking (this is going to kill me)
- probably e1000 and rtl8139 support first, then I'll consider ne2k and pcnet
- an actual graphical interface

As for a screenshot, here's one I took just now (as I am typing this):

You can find the source code (and its releases) online: https://git.thesillysociety.net/kooper/systemk

Anyway I've got to go back to working on it because otherwise I'll procrastinate it into the next year lmao. crying

Fantastic work! Too bad it's so Unix-like, or I'd give it a try.

It being so Unix-like shouldn't deter you from giving it a try.
It's still usable (or at least, usable in the sense that nothing critical should fail).

Eventually, once the graphical interface is implemented it will be much more user-friendly (I hope).

Anything Unix-like is a deterrent for me on principle.
