In the dark days of 2025, record labels are always remastering their back catalogue. This is not a new thing, they've been doing this for years. If we look at some albums by popular artists, like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon or The Beatles' Abbey Road, there have been countless remasters, many ruined by the loudness war and heavy-handed noise reduction.

Today however, I want to talk about something else. Specifically music videos.

For some reason, it seems like music videos just aren't taken seriously most of the time, and end up either using worn out video copy tapes, uploading at low resolutions, poorly done deinterlacing (or not deinterlacing at all), and many other issues. Today, many labels are even taking their already crappy videos and quickly running them through AI upscalers with disastrous results.

So to start this thread off, you're getting rickrolled!

That's right, the video to "Never Gonna Give You Up" was horrendously AI upscaled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

They did the same with many of his other videos too, like Together Forever and (the anti-Never Gonna Give You Up) Giving Up on Love.

On the other hand, sometimes labels post actual remasters that likely took time and effort to finish, like a-ha's "Take On Me". We should celebrate these and encourage other companies to do the same.

What are some of the worst and best examples of video restorations you've found online?
