Thought I'd do a topic to list a bunch of youtube channels I've come across and have had bookmarked for some time. Feel free to add in what you do too, or complain about how much youtube sucks with their changes over the past few years.

History Related:
Kings and Generals:
They're a pretty in depth channel about historical wars. I kinda wish they'd stick with historical ones, but lately have been doing some regarding Russia/Ukraine. They also do stuff about civilizations/lifestyles throughout history.
Invicta:
They're like Kings and Generals, but a smaller style one.
Historia Civilis
This guy is as low budget as you can get but is accurate. Dude mostly only covers Roman History.

Food Related:
Townsends
Not really political, which I personally like, the guy focuses on Colonial American history with his cooking videos. He does go into other topics too but that's what he's more famous for.
Tasting History
Some guy in a kitchen cooking old recipes.

Other Stuff:
Fandabi Dozi
Probably the weirdest channel I have bookmarked. This guy is into backpacking and whatnot, but also focuses on Scottish/English martial arts.
Filmrise True Crime
If you like old 90s crime stuff (Forensic Files, The FBI Files, etc.), they have their entire catalog on youtube.
Computer Chronicles
This is a youtube channel mirror of all Computer Chronicles Episodes... You can download them from archive.org too. Great to see how much tech has changed since the early 1980s-2000.

Police Videos:
(If you see me on discord, I love actually seeing the raw footage police dashcam/body cam videos.)
Code Blue Cam
PoliceActivity
Blue Watch

Nice list. There are only a few I watch these days. Mostly tech youtubers who likely need no introduction, but highlights for me are Techmoan who does videos on various gadgets and things, VWestlife, another tech youtuber with a fairly small fanbase compared to the major ones like LGR and Michael MJD, and MartinsVidsDotNet who does great tribute videos to past Disney attractions.

Well, I suppose I'll add my own little list to this post, since I intend to participate here.

I'll plug my own two channels first:
https://www.youtube.com/@AiOinc1 This is my main channel, where I do what I like to all "Variety content." I work on cars, show off modems, show my printer collection, have videos of commercial dishwashers, ovens, and package wrappers, post lame memes I make, etc. Miscellaneous topics.
https://www.youtube.com/@TheDiskMaster This is my second channel, where I document my hard drive collection exclusively. I was posting a new video once a week until the move, and I have been on hiatus a while, but I think there are already almost 100 videos on there.

Now, onto the rest:
Automotive
https://www.youtube.com/@TheDavidFreiburger This channel is run by a gentleman named David Freiburger, who was (is?) an automotive journalist with a few decades of experience and who was previously the host of several MotorTrend television shows, before Discovery bought and shut them all down. His content very closely mirrors my favorite of his shows, called "Roadkill." It mostly involves buying garbage cars and attempting to do interesting things with them, typically driving cross country, or setting times at drag strips, etc.

https://www.youtube.com/@jenningsmotorsports7554 Jenning's Motor Sports is another automotive rescue channel, taken to the logical extreme. This gentleman trailers home century old vehicles from fields and forests and attempts to drag them kicking and screaming back into life, with varying degrees of success and violence involved. Sometimes it fires right up after 60 years and he drives it around the yard, sometimes he spends 5 days just trying to get it to turn and breaks two cylinders out with a hammer and chisel before it's willing to play ball. Very entertaining.

https://www.youtube.com/@NEUTRALDROP Neutral Drop is a channel of two new york vehicle scrappers who occasionally get running cars to crush and destroy them in interesting ways. The cars are recycled afterwards, so nothing is necessarily wasted, but it's always interesting to see what they think up to send already bad engines over the edge.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcSeeATlWJJbXpOZRYOfaDg mustie1 is another vehicle diagnostic and revival channel, typically on European cars. He's got a real soft spot for air cooled volkswagens, lots of videos on getting those running after they've sat in the mud for years. He does some real proper restorations, too. I think until recently one of his vehicles even made it into a museum. Cool guy, pretty relaxed videos, he talks to the camera like you're in the shop with him. It's nice to listen to it while working on my own cars, makes an empty garage feel less lonely.

https://www.youtube.com/@CamdenBowen Camden Bowen. This guy is building his own engines almost completely from scratch. Need I say more? The engineering effort is incredible here and the fact anything he builds works at all is a testament to his luck (and knowledge!)

Comedy
https://www.youtube.com/@HenryPhillips The only comedian I'll directly admit to watching is Henry Phillips. His "Henry's Kitchen" series always gets me dying with laughter. If you can appreciate awkward humor, this guy will absolutely have you rolling in no time. I highly recommend this video - It's a perfect storm of everything I think makes him funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liLnvMtISFE

Gaming
I watch a few "common" gaming channels you may already be familiar with, such as Game Grumps or Scott the Woz, so I will only put the lesser known favorites here.

https://www.youtube.com/@CallMeCarsonLIVE Carson is someone I find absolutely hilarious, it's such dumb humor but I love it nonetheless. His friends add some really good commentary as well, this channel is a total hoot. He's got a few channels, but this is the one where he most frequently uploads.

https://www.youtube.com/@Sliphantom Sliphantom sadly does not upload often anymore, but for a while he was uploading some really funny videos in a game I really enjoy called Automation, building interesting cars. He also did a couple videos on another game I like called Robot Arena 2. Most of his content has the same "tone" of comedy, and it really works.

https://www.youtube.com/@LegendsofAvantris Legends of Avantris is a large ongoing D&D gameplay channel. I mostly treat their videos as podcasts, and I have been listening in to their Once Upon a Witchlight campaign for a few weeks. I'm absolutely hooked, they have such a good party dynamic and they all roleplay pretty seriously. Lots of fun moments, it's absolutely gripping. Don't watch unless you have a lot of time to kill!

Music
https://www.youtube.com/@pdmillar Paul Miller is a fellow from the classic YT days for sure, and his videos still reflect that. I like his band "Slugbug" a lot.

https://www.youtube.com/@cs32767
https://www.youtube.com/@daxxravebusters
cs127 and d4xx both do excellent remixes of 90s Amiga tracker music. I highly recommend both, they're almost criminally underrated in my opinion.

Technology
https://www.youtube.com/@uxwbill UXWBill is an absolute classic, and one of my favorite YouTubers of all time. My channel and content are heavily inspired by him. Variety content, working on cars, misc electronics, refrigeration, and computers. He uploads less frequently these days, but he's such a jolly fellow that I always enjoy the posts.

https://www.youtube.com/@shango066 shango066 is nothing short of what I would call a diagnostic legend. His video is full of primarily vintage television and radio repair. Like Jenning's above, he takes the idea of a "Resurrection" and brings it to it's logical extreme. His other hobby is exploring abandoned mines and ghost towns, so he often comes across company dumps where televisions and radios were abandoned in the California desert for over 50 years. In many cases he is successful in getting them to play again, one last time before he scraps them for parts. He also occasionally offers up sets for adoption for those brave enough to attempt a true restoration. It's a little old by this point, but my favorite has always been the TraVler resurrection. It's a two part video where he pulls two dead televisions from the desert and brings one of them back to life just enough to catch the superbowl. It's an absolutely amazing watch and his diagnostics are nothing short of breathtaking. He's even so kind as to leave in mistakes and rabbit holes he chases. I will say that he occasionally gets a little political in his videos, but at his age, who doesn't? I don't think it takes anything away from the amazing content either way.

https://www.youtube.com/@CathodeRayDude Many of you probably already know of Gravis, but I feel obligated to put him here since he has had the "LGR effect" on me and poisoned my brain with an interest in telephony and vintage digital cameras. He's a little bit crass in some cases, but he makes genuinely well researched and interesting video essays in my opinion. Amazing channel with shockingly high production value given his subscriber count. I highly recommend it.

https://www.youtube.com/@RGMechEx Retro Game Mechanics Explained is exactly what it sounds like - This gentleman reverse engineers and explains the inner workings of many retro video games. It's a very interesting channel, and while it can be a long time between his uploads, they're always of very high quality.

https://www.youtube.com/@SpareTimeRepair Spare Time Repair makes some excellent and very relaxing repair videos of various consumer devices, mostly AV gear. It's something nice and calm to watch after a long day at work.

https://www.youtube.com/@retrocet Retrocet used to do a lot of videos on modems and telephony, but seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. A real shame, because they are pretty good videos in my opinion!

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0UflzOybq16vw7b638_-pg Tech Time Traveler does some excellent videos on his incredible collection of often extremely rare 60s-70s-80s computers. Lots of early often hand built hobby computers here. Highly recommend, this guy does not get nearly the attention his sense of humor and collection deserve!

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2bkHVIDjXS7sgrgjFtzOXQ This channel, run by Bill Hammack, is an excellent teaching tool. This guy can make anything interesting, I've got a few of his books.

https://www.youtube.com/@styropyro If you haven't heard of styropyro by this point, I'd be very surprised. This guy does some absolutely mindblowing experiments with incredibly dangerous things. A few months ago he put a few hundred car batteries in parallel, he plays with some of the most powerful CW lasers in the world, builds his own ridiculously large Tesla coils, and recently he did a video on pushing some commercial magnetrons into the tens of thousands of watts. This guy casually showed off a substation transformer once.

Podcasts
Here are the three podcasts I still actively listen to. The number has dropped a long way in the last few years, sadly.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4T1sDYpnBr6oSr1zIUCb5clReSXM8NN1 The Completely Unnecessary Podcast features NES collector Pat Contri and (former) manager of Luna Video Games Ian Ferguson discussing the current state of the video game market. I would definitely call them experts at this point, the podcast has been going nearly 10 years by now and they always have very interesting and enlightening discussions. Lots of fun to watch them poke holes in scam products, too!

https://www.youtube.com/@yogpod The Triforce podcast spawned from the dormancy of an old podcast I already listened to called "The YoGPoD," which originally featured Lewis Brindley and Simon Lane, two people who I arguably grew up watching playing video games on YouTube. I don't watch the gaming content as much anymore, but their podcast was always hilarious. Simon took a break from content creation in 2015 due to health issues and appears very infrequently now, sadly. In his place are Chris Lovasz of similar fame, and Ted Forsyth. They make a pretty funny combination, in my opinion.

https://www.youtube.com/@orborbshow Orborb is a new one on my list, it only just started. It's a joint podcast between CallMeCarson I mentioned above and a friend of his who goes by the name Gavintino. This is 100% a parody podcast and entirely comedic in nature. It's definitely not intended to be taken seriously, but it's pretty funny, I think.

I'm gonna stop the list there because it's getting rather long. If I sat and thought about it longer I could probably name another dozen or two channels that I absolutely love, but these are most of them, I think. I hope someone gives a few of these a try and finds something they like!

https://www.youtube.com/@danooct1

Why was this guy not mentioned... he's got loads of videos of computer viruses in action, from DOS to even Windows XP. The era when viruses used to be either jocular in nature or be completely destructive (ArcticBomb is a prime example of that).

In my own list I excluded him because one the one hand he barely uploads anymore, on the other his commentary is often extremely dry and emotionless, and then on the third mutant hand, the several times I interracted with him around 10 years ago he was absolutely insufferable to talk to.

But that's just me, I'm not sure if that was directed at any one person or just rhetorical.

It's been a couple years since I made my last post on this thread, so I have a couple more to add.

Clabretro uploads some awesome videos on older enterprise/home networking gear including videos on Sun servers, dial-up, phones, and Linksys routers.

Styropyro is a mad scientist building things like high powered lasers, fire death machines, and the macrowave.

VCSMaster mentioned CRD, and although he does post many interesting videos, he also annoys me a bit as he likes to throw random politicial stuff in many of his videos. I tend to watch videos to get away from that stuff, so it's annoying when it leaks into an otherwise interesting video.

Oh I totally agree. Love the guy's videos, they're so well researched. Even if he does tend to get a little rude in the comments once in a while.

He's like Technology Connections if Alec spent more than 5 seconds on Bing for a given topic
