Hello! I'm Europa. I suppose I should actually make one of these, given the influx of new members, and seeing as I'm a moderator on the forum.

I am interested in old technology as a whole, although my primary interest lies with Unix, BSD, and (to an extent) Linux. I do also have an interest in old Macintoshes, and I dabble in DOS and Windows as well. Other than that, I like to write and I'm a photographer.

I have written a guide on how to network boot a variety of Sun systems that is continually getting updates, and have a discussion post on this forum about it.

I am also slowly working on a project relating to Oracle DB and Arc/INFO that also has a post here.

To every member, both recent and not, I hope you enjoy your time here, and feel free to reach out. I don't bite (unless requested)! Smile

Oh wow, never seen you before, stranger! Welcome to the forum!!!!

I'm just kidding, but nice.

What kind of old Macintoshes? I have a handful of 68K stuff but most of my collection is PowerPC these days, even though I never use them. Would love to be rid of a lot of them but can't bring myself to throw them away and nobody ever wants them!

Digital or analog photography?

Mostly PowerPC Macs, although I have a couple Intel iMacs that I have around for when I need stuff of that vintage, and I have a Performa 450 as well. I'd like to get more 68k stuff in particular, but PowerPC also remains very much an interest of mine.

Primarily analogue! I grew up shooting film and it's been a pleasure that's stayed with me ever since. I'd eventually like to set up something on my site where I can have something like a photo gallery with my pictures.

Ahh, gotcha gotcha. I'm a big fan of early digital photography. I carry a Minolta Dimage EX1500 around in the car just in case I see something particularly photo-worthy.

And hey if you're ever in the Southeast feel free to come take several of these PowerPC machines away. I only need like, one MDD and one sawtooth, not like 9.

Awesome! Yeah, I'd like to get into early digital photography more. Right now I have a Sony Mavica, but that's really the only "early" digital camera I have. My main digital camera is a Nikon D3300, and it does really well.

Sounds good! If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, I'll definitely take you up on that offer Smile

Mavicas are cool. I have an FD73 and an FD91 myself, I actually REALLY like the FD91 but the part that makes it interesting to most people is also what really hinders it's usage. You can only store like 7 full size JPEGs on a disk! Wish it was a little newer so that it could take FlashPath as an option, at least. It has an awesome 14x lens off a HandyCam of the era, even has SteadyShot and the night vision!

Oh that's awesome! Mine is an FD-75. I primarily shoot in VGA quality, which gives me about a film roll's worth of pictures on one disk. The floppy disks are neat, but also sort of tiresome if you're not set up specifically to transfer files from them. I've considered using it to photograph computers for my website, because I'm sure that would be a welcome addition.

Which, btw, I don't have the page set up yet, but I do have the directory set up with my film pictures here on my site. I'll just need to actually get the page set up to display them.
