I have a little Magic Jack dongle thing, and it's been pretty cool for connecting my land line and modem to a phone number. The plan I have came with the purchasing of the device, and it expires some time in October, so I'll have to look into how expensive the plan is once the free year ends, as it's pretty proprietary. That's like the one downside though, I've been able to connect to Dialup.World's ISP and send fax on my Windows XP system's modem, and call on my telephone just fine after setting it up on a Mac.

I want to try connecting to a BBS, but I don't know anything about how to do that. If someone knows how, I'd love a response! Another thing is that I wonder if there's a custom firmware for my device that could get it pointed at Voip.MS, because that would be way more economical than anything else. I don't expect to find that though, light searching left me pretty pessimistic on that front.

https://fsxnet.nz/bbs/clients has a list of BBS clients, and I can recommend NetRunner in particular. The interface isn't the greatest, but I've found it reliable and easy to use once you've got it configured.
